Handicrafts in the technique of quilling

This technique is also called paper twisting. It is a little more complicated, as it requires special accuracy, patience and a certain dexterity.

What is quilling

Briefly, quilling is the creation of volumetric compositions of long narrow strips of paper twisted into spirals. Such twisted elements are called modules. They give them a different shape - round, elongated, in the form of a drop, and so on, depending on the composition.

Most often, the technique of quilling perform cards, paintings, photo frames. The compositions are often concise, sometimes consisting of only a few elements. But thanks to the twisted spirals the handicraft looks sophisticated and far from simple. For those who are new to the technique, it is better to buy a ready-made quilling kit with already cut paper, a marked base and detailed instructions.

Quilling-card

One of the simplest, but stylish quilling style crafts is a postcard. To make a card with a flower with five petals takes cardboard, colored paper (white, yellow, green), a quilling needle (homemade or from a purchased set of needles for quilling), a pencil, tweezers, PVA glue, brush, scissors.

Instructions:

  1. Insert a strip of yellow in the needle, bend the end and twist the core of the flower in a regular round shape. Fix the other end with glue.
  2. From the white strips in the same way to twist 5 petals and give them an elongated shape, pointed on one side: for this, two fingers to pinch a pair of outer circles of the spiral, so that you get a "drop". If you do this on three sides, you get a triangular shaped petal.
  3. Make two drop-shaped leaves from green paper, leave a 12-15 cm long strip of green for the stem.
  4. On the cardboard base, mark the locations of the elements, draw a wavy line for the curved stem.
  5. Holding the parts with tweezers, carefully apply glue from the back side on the edges of the spiral, then attach the parts to the cardboard base. Lightly press down for a few seconds to allow the glue to set. It is best to start with the head of the flower.

To make a red heart in the technique of quilling is also easier - twist a circle larger, make the outer corners on three sides to form a triangle, and then between the two corners to form another - inner - corner, to get a heart shape with a notch.

Knowing the basics of technology, you can do more complex compositions with butterflies, birds, fish. Such elegant paper crafts on March 8 will be a worthy gift and a nice sign of attention.
