Candles with their own hands - a master class of making aromatic and ordinary candles at home

In this article we will talk about the technology of making candles with their own hands at home. This type of handmade is gaining in popularity, it can be both a common hobby and an additional source of income.

Ingredients

To make it, you will need materials:

  • Wax, paraffin or wax wax.
  • Thread, to make a wick.
  • A melting pot for the wax, wax or wax wax.
  • Pouring molds.
  • Holder for wick.

Types of wax

A total of 3 types of wax, suitable for candle making, are distinguished:

  • Palm wax.
  • Bee.
  • Soybean wax.

Palm wax melts at temperatures over 60 degrees, when it cools, it crystallizes and forms a beautiful velvet pattern on it. If you take a hard mold with special patterns, they will be covered with a nice fringe.

Beeswax is the most popular because it not only creates a pleasant smell, but is also beneficial for the human body.

Soy wax is made from beans, because of which it is environmentally friendly and does not create soot when burned.

Wick

Wick can be purchased at any available handicraft store. You can make it yourself, but the process is very time-consuming. Important: Wick for candles should be made only of natural materials, preferably cotton.

It is necessary not only to choose the right material, but also the size. For candles over 8 centimeters in diameter, the wick must consist of a minimum of 22 strands. This is to prevent a small wick from burning quickly, or a large wick from quickly melting a small candle.

For stability, it can be wrapped with thin wire, which creates stability and a reinforced effect.

After the wick is made or purchased, it should be soaked in melted paraffin. To change the color of the flame when burning it should be treated with special solutions.

Pouring Molds

There are a large number of molds for pouring, let's review the main ones:

  • Made of soft plastic. This form is designed for making candles of small size.
  • From metal. In these forms, the candles are perfectly flat and smooth, in addition, the metal can withstand high temperatures.
  • Of silicone. These molds are also resistant to high temperatures, but wear out quickly.
  • Made of gypsum. The advantage of plaster is that a person can make any shape, as far as the imagination is enough.

Melting jars

An ordinary tin can can be used to melt wax or any other material. The melting procedure is done as follows:

  • Water is poured into a saucepan and brought to a boil.
  • The container is lowered into the saucepan and the paraffin is placed in it.

It is worth remembering about the precautions when melting wax:

  • It should not be done over an open flame, as the wax can catch fire. This also applies to microwave ovens.
  • When melting the wax, it must be stirred regularly.

Scented Oils.

To improve the scent from a candle, you can add scented oils or medicinal herbs to it. This will not only help you enjoy the pleasant smell and improve your health.

Examples of making candles

Now we will look at some of the master classes of candle making.

Candles made of multicolored layers

This candle will help to bring color to your interior.

  1. Take multicolored wax crayons, cut into small pieces.
  2. Mix the pieces in paraffin and in the microwave, watching the process, heat them until soft. After that stir thoroughly.
  3. After that, set the wick and start pouring your own of each color in turn. You can add scented oil to them before you do this.
  4. After the first layer has set, pour the next layer.

You can be creative and make the layers not straight, but by tilting the glass in different directions, giving them different shapes.

Openwork candles

These are decorative candles with different patterns. Materials needed:

  • Paraffin.
  • Dye.
  • Ice cubes.
  • Wick.
  • Fragrance oil.
  • Cylindrical pouring mold.

Using a pot of water and a tin, melt the paraffin as described above.

Place the wick in the candle mold and secure it. Put small pieces of ice in the form, and then pour the paraffin.

After some time, the paraffin will solidify and the ice will melt. Beautiful holes will form in place of the ice, which will give the candle an unusual pattern.

Carefully drain the water and remove the candle.

Massage Candles

Massage candles are made only from soy wax, as it does not harm the skin. Scented oil is also added to the candle to achieve the desired effect, you can add: oil of lemon, orange, rose, patchouli or rosemary.

Procedure for making:

  1. Melt the wax and solid oil in the way described above.
  2. After the mass has cooled, add the liquid oil to it.
  3. Wait until the mass is completely cooled and add the vitamins.
  4. Pour the resulting liquid in a form with a wick.
  5. When the wax cools completely, remove the candle.

Candles for decoration

If you're not going to use a candle for its intended purpose, you can turn it into a decorative element, decorating it with different patterns. Flowers and dried fruits are also suitable for this purpose. In this case, you are limited only by your imagination.

Making candles out of wax with your own hands

Wax is an artificial honeycomb made of wax. We take the basis of the bees' honeycombs, in which the wax is poured, and this is how the honeycomb is obtained. This product consists of environmentally friendly materials, so it is harmless to humans. Candles made of honeycomb are soft and pleasant to the touch.

For unusual candle burning, soak the wick in a solution with special ingredients:

  • Copper sulfate will give the flame a blue hue.
  • Strontium chloride will make the flame bright red.
  • Common table salt will give the flame a richness.

Process of making:

  1. It is necessary to cut the wax using a knife into even strips, the diameter and height of the candle being determined by yourself, whichever is more to your liking.
  2. With any heating device, heaters, hair dryers or just in the sun let the honeycomb warm up. Important! The strips should not melt, but just become plastic.
  3. The plates are then transferred to the table. Since the wax is soft, the wick is pressed into it and the twisting process begins. The most important thing is to have time before the wax hardens completely, so that the candle turns out neat and beautiful.

Making candles at home is not a very time consuming process. You can make it a hobby, so that the house always smells nice, and if there is an entrepreneurial streak, you can make a small business out of it.
