Knitting with knitted yarn by crochet and needlework: an overview of the best solutions and a step-by-step description of the main stages of creating knitted things

Knitting with knitted yarn is gaining more and more fans. It turns out not only great things for everyday outings, but also unusual and stylish decorative elements. In today's design world, the yarn came from Turkey and Portugal.

Types of knitted yarn

Knitted yarn has been known for a long time. Even our grandmothers used to cut ribbons from old things and knit round mats and runners. It turned out nice, but recycling had its own disadvantages - the yarn had knots and breaks.

The modern market offers different kinds of knitted yarn: from recycled remnants of knitted fabric to whole specially woven yarn. The latter option is quite expensive. If you have a great desire to save money, you can use your grandmother's method and make knitted ribbons yourself.

Commercial yarn is divided by thickness:

  • 3-5 mm - Suitable for fine work and small items for decoration. Also, it will turn out wonderful openwork things: dresses, blouses, scarves, etc.
  • 5-7 mm - Universal component for any item. Decorative bracelets and necklaces, slippers and purses - any little thing necessary in everyday life is made of this type of yarn.
  • 7-9mm - Textured plaids and coarse-knit sweaters, sweaters, cardigans and even knitted coats will look great with this yarn.
  • over 9 mm - for items in which size matters. These are baskets for storing various things, and knitted poufs or chairs, furniture covers. You can safely take on the decoration of the house.

By its composition yarn can be cotton, synthetic or mixed. It is a straight ribbons or twisted plaits. The range of colors just strikes the imagination: on the shelves of stores and online sites you can find both monochrome and fancy polychrome colors.

Knitting with knitting yarn will especially appeal to those who have recently become interested in this kind of needlework. After all, its texture allows you to knit quickly, and the result is visible immediately.

Tools

Both needles and crochet are suitable for knitting yarn. In this sense, ribbon (knitting) yarn is not much different from the classic. However, when choosing a knitting tool, focus on the density.

Knit fabrics are quite elastic, since most have added elastane, so if you stretch the loops too much you can get a shapeless product. With the right tool widths, knitted yarns hold their shape and texture perfectly. Machine knitting is also possible for this material.

Ideas for creativity

Knitted yarn up to 9 mm is suitable for knitting classic clothing models and decorations. All creative ideas from it look original and fresh. The openwork patterns will be clearly visible, and the embossed texture will not blur as you work.

Even the usual front seam, made of this material, looks unusual: the large knitted loops show the smaller ones. It is also worth noting that knitted yarn is soft and pleasant to the touch. Things made of it will definitely like children. The process of knitting toys for children from this material will please both craftsmen and their children. Everything will turn out exactly as in the picture.

Unusually look and products made by crochet. They are more dense in structure and due to the volume of the yarn acquire an interesting shape and texture. Especially stylish look backpacks and handbags made from this yarn. Due to the dense structure, shoes knitted from this yarn are good. It will keep its shape, and thanks to the softness will be pleasant and comfortable to wear.

From a thicker yarn (more than 9 mm thick) looks great various elements of home decor. So popular are various baskets made of tightly knitted knitwear. Schemes for crochet knitted baskets overflow the expanses of the Internet.

To choose a designer piece for yourself, think about where it will be and what it is intended for. It can be crocheted from knitted yarn baskets to store toys, or they are designed for things in the laundry, etc. The color scheme and composition of the basket depends on where it is located.

So for the children's room it is better to choose cotton, and for the bathroom more suitable synthetic material, which will repel moisture and will not fade and deform under its influence.

Consider the scheme of knitting one such basket. For knitting choose a hook number 6-8, depending on the thickness of the yarn. The yarn should be at least a little thicker than the hook, so that the fabric was denser, and the product held its shape. Here you need to knit as tightly as possible.

  1. First we knit the bottom. We wind a small ring and knit in it 12 columns without a stitch.
  2. The first row we double the loops, then alternate the additions through the row. In each additive row reduce the number of additions: so the third row add in one, in the fifth - in two, and so on, until you get the bottom of the basket of the required size. Remember that the addition must be even, otherwise the bottom will not be flat and wavy.
  3. With the same thread that was connected to the bottom, continue to knit the walls. Stop adding, and knit stitches without a stitch up to the desired size.
  4. To decorate the basket you can knit handles. To do this, knit two chains of air loops opposite each other. The main work does not need to stop. The length of the chain should correspond to the width of your hands, so it is easier to take it. Fasten the free end of the chain three or four loops earlier than its length. Continue knitting the basket for three to five more rows, depending on the thickness of the yarn. The edges can be worked with a "rachetta step", for this, the columns are knit in reverse order - from left to right. Basket is ready.
  5. In addition, you can knit and cover for such a basket. The work begins the same way as the bottom, but on a few rows we do the cover wider than the bottom, then knit without additions 8-10 rows, depending on the thickness of the yarn.

In addition to baskets, this yarn will be interesting in the design of various plaids, rugs, chair-bags and other elements of home decor. And while the other version would be time-consuming, the wide ribbon allows you to try your hand at creating upholstered furniture and large décor.

How to take care of things with knitted yarn

Things made of knitted fabric are unpretentious and do not require special care. However, it is worth remembering that things connected with needles can stretch when washed and change shape. They require hand or delicate machine washing. Crocheted baskets of knitted yarn, on the contrary, are easily washed in the machine and do not deform.
