Beading has been known since Ancient Egypt. In Russia, as beads were used river pearls and pieces of mother-of-pearl, and the Indian tribe of the Dakotas to this day uses the so-called Ogalala technique, which is characterized by an extraordinary lightness, airiness and the use of not only beads, but also beads.

Types of weaving

Followers of the ancient art use the following techniques of beading:

  • French;
  • mosaic;
  • monastic;
  • flat;
  • volumetric;
  • needle-shaped;
  • mesh;
  • hand weaving;
  • brick stitch.

Beginner masters should try their hand at the simplest types of weaving, which include flat, French and needlepoint techniques.

Methods of making

Beginners are not recommended to begin their activity with the design of necklaces - this is the most difficult type of beadwork. The first experience should be the making of bracelets, brooches and earrings. Only having a hand on the design of simple items can move on to work on the necklace.

Before you start making a necklace of beads and beads with your own hands, you should have in front of you a scheme, drawing or photo of the product that you are going to weave.

There are kinds of jewelry for which you need to use only one fishing line. There are products with two bases, and modular options require several bases, which eventually join each other.

Materials

The originality of the piece depends greatly on the craftsman's ability to match the external shape and color scheme. This is a very elegant necklace, which can be made both by the selection of contrasting elements, and by a successful combination of similar color palettes.

No less important is the quality of the beads. If the material is cheap and has flaws, this will not allow you to create a unique piece of jewelry. Purchasing high-quality material naturally requires a certain expense, but will bring pleasure both during the work and after its completion, when you get an exquisite product.

Speaking about the financial side of things, let us note that beads are not expensive, so there is no need for special investments in purchasing high-quality material.

Using beads only to create something original is not possible. It is necessary to prepare additional details:

  • natural stones;
  • beads;
  • Necessary elements of accessories - clasps, locks, etc.

And, of course, you will need lines of different diameters, needles, scissors, glue and a number of other tools.

Rules of choice

Beads are made of plastic, glass and bone. The highest quality reads the material made of glass.

At the time of purchase, you should:

  1. Carefully look at the shape and size of the beads, they should be the same, have no chips or cracks.
  2. The holes in the beads should be the same.
  3. Rub the beads in your hands, they should not leave traces of paint on your hands.
  4. Buy a small batch of material to try out. At home wrap it in a light coloured cloth and dip it in boiling water for a few minutes.

Quality beads should not leave any traces on the fabric.

If you pay attention to the country of manufacturer, the best beads are Czech and Japanese. They are more expensive than Chinese, but of a much higher quality.

Step by step instructions

Consider the stages of making a beaded necklace with your own hands.

From the leather, a circle of greater size than the necklace to be created is cut out. Then:

  • a pendant of jasper is fixed on the base and around it is trimmed with beads of dark gold color;
  • Then the pendant is braided in the mosaic technique;
  • Three rows braided with dark gold beads and the next four with brown beads;
  • metal pendants are used as embroidery elements. Their bases are fixed with beads and then stitched through the openwork elements;
  • Translucent beads and faceted beads are used to outline a contour around the jasper;
  • a row of glass beads is laid out;
  • the final row of the outline is decorated with brown beads;
  • the received sheet is cut out along the contour, with a step of a couple of millimeters;
  • the received blank serves as a template by means of which two sheets are cut out - one of leather, another of cardboard (the size of the new blanks for a pair or three millimeters less than already ready);
  • the new blanks are glued together;
  • needle to stitch both parts so that the beads were parallel to the outermost row of embroidery;
  • the bronze is placed in the center, and the outline is decorated with beads;
  • The sheets are joined together with beads, agate and jasper beads;
  • two harnesses are woven (about one centimeter long) in the technique of American weaving;
  • four beads of gold and brown are threaded on the thread;
  • Then one brown and four gold beads are threaded, and this operation is continued until the desired length of the braid is obtained;
  • A toggle clasp (a special accessory for costume jewelry) is fastened on one end;
  • On the second end of the harness, agate and jasper beads are connected;
  • In a similar way another braid is made, with a few beads added in the upper part for a more elegant arrangement of the necklace on the lady's neck.

As you see, the process of making requires persistence and assiduity, to follow the instruction attentively, to buy the necessary details, but the resulting unusual product justifies all the time and labor!

Amber

Petrified resin, which is extracted from the sea or river bed, is used in the manufacture of various original jewelry and jewelry. As far back as Aristotle speculated that the base of the sunstone was the resin of coniferous trees.

However, a beautiful legend of the ancient Greeks, linking the appearance of amber with the inconsolable sisters of Phaethon, evokes more emotion in people.

Preventing the destruction of the world from rushing indiscriminately, on his father's chariot, the boy Phaethon, Zeus struck him down with lightning bolts. The mother and sisters mourned his loss so much that the gods took pity on them and turned them into poplar trees. However, even after becoming a tree, the mother and sisters (heliads) continued to weep, dropping amber tears into the river.

Price

Items made of natural amber are valued very highly. Jewelers have developed a unified system of evaluation of a stone, based on the principle of the four C's (according to the Latin alphabet). The price involves taking into account the four characteristics:

  • color (color);
  • Clarity;
  • Cut;
  • Weight (carat weight).

It often happens that a large stone costs ten times less than a small one, simply because it does not meet all the jewelry parameters, unlike a small one.

Jewelry made of amber

In specialized salons and jewelry stores, you can buy an unusual necklace made of beads of natural amber. Costume jewelry made of small stones or amber crumbs is quite affordable for people with average incomes.

The weight of a helid tear is determined in carats, as for all precious stones. Does it make sense to make a creation with this stone? Based on the fact that the cost of the material is very high, and not being a professional in the jewelry business, and the possibility of spoiling the material is very high, it is not recommended for amateur craftsmen.
