How to make a greenhouse with your own hands from polycarbonate, profile pipe, wood or old window frames

Russia is a broad country, and the climate is different everywhere, but the desire to grow their own vegetables is equally strong in all people. Not always planting in the open ground ends with lush flowering and growth of seedlings.

To insure and get a guaranteed result, you can create a suitable climate for sprouting seeds and rooting seedlings with the help of a greenhouse. In this article, we will look at the best projects for creating a greenhouse with their own hands from A to Z.

Basic elements of a greenhouse

Many people confuse the greenhouse with a greenhouse. The design of a greenhouse is more complicated, it consists of:

  1. foundation;
  2. frame;
  3. cladding.

In addition to solar energy, seedlings in the greenhouse receive heat from the compost bed, electric heating devices. To stimulate growth, the room is equipped with additional lighting, automated irrigation and ventilation system.

The greenhouse is characterized by its large size, the gardener works inside, freely moving between the beds, there is an opportunity to grow plants until the withdrawal of the harvest. Of course, it is not excluded a simpler arrangement of a greenhouse, for example, with no foundation. In this case, the transfer of the construction to another place will be easier.

Materials for a greenhouse

Construction materials and fasteners are used for construction. At the stage of the project must provide ventilation holes: they may be in the form of transoms or removable windows.

Frame

The frame of a greenhouse is made of:

  • wood - coniferous species (spruce, pine) in the form of beams, slats are used for construction. The material is necessarily treated with antiseptic annually. The service life of such structures is low: 3-4 years, because the natural material is subject to the processes of rotting;
  • Metal - made of aluminum or galvanized steel. Note that steel profiles are susceptible to corrosion;
  • pvc-profile - suitable for small greenhouses or used in combination with stronger materials.

Cladding

Choose the material to cover the greenhouse should be based on the strength of the frame, climatic conditions and budget.

  • Glass is a strong lining, the plants will have enough light, but the construction will be heavy, and if we take into account that it will have to withstand the weight of snow, wind gusts, the frame will need to be strengthened.
  • Polyethylene film - will do simple or reinforced. It has a light weight, low cost, but under the influence of ultraviolet is deformed and loses the ability to pass the sun. For a seasonal greenhouse is a great option.
  • Cellular polycarbonate - a greenhouse from polycarbonate with their own hands will be lightweight, durable and airtight.

Choosing the place of installation

If you need a greenhouse for growing seasonal vegetables, then you should choose a place on the southern side of the plot.

In the case of installation of a thorough structure for year-round horticulture, placement is made at any point, but organize inside the greenhouse additional communications: lighting, irrigation, heating. Near it should not be creating shade trees.

PVC pipes

Budget option, does not require a foundation. Calculate the required number of pipes, connectors and splitters. Cladding is better to do with a film.

  1. Assemble the bottom strapping.
  2. The arch elements are fixed to it.
  3. The arches are connected to each other along the entire length by longitudinal pipes.
  4. They also form the frame and door.
  5. The whole construction is covered with a film, fixing it to the tubes with clamps.

Such a variant will suit dacha owners, who need a greenhouse only for the summer.

Polycarbonate

It is possible to make a solid greenhouse with a base of a wooden bar on a brick foundation, covered with polycarbonate. The work will consist of several blocks:

Foundation

  • According to the marked perimeter dug shallow trench width of 0, 25m, fill it with sand to the soil level and compacted firmly;
  • Along the trench lay the first layer of bricks in two horizontal rows;
  • On top of the trench lay the second layer, fixing the material with cement mortar;
  • Cover the foundation with waterproofing;

The frame

  • Fix the perimeter of the bottom strapping and corner posts with corners and self-tapping screws;
  • Install the intermediate struts in the same way with a spacing of 0.5 m;
  • Mount the upper strapping;
  • Separately, fix the frame of the door with cross beams;
  • Angled rafters connect in series with the corner posts, the tops of the door frame beams and with each other;
  • Throughout the upper part of the greenhouse fix intermediate rafters, additionally fastening them with horizontal beams;
  • Connect the corners with a ridge beam;
  • Strengthen the construction with brackets;
  • Hang the door on the hinges;
  • Fasten the whole structure to the foundation;

Covering

  • We cut the connecting profile on the length of the ridge and rafters, install;
  • Cut polycarbonate sheets are inserted into the profiles, gluing them with perforated tape from below for drainage;
  • Fix the polycarbonate sheets on the walls of the greenhouse on the bar with self-tapping screws;
  • Install the latches and handles.

You can take care of the arrangement of beds inside and the supply of communications.

Polyethylene is used as an alternative to polycarbonate cladding.

From old window frames

How to make a glass greenhouse with your own hands inexpensively? There is an answer: use old window frames. The design will be weighty, so you should install it on a solid foundation.

On it mount the corner vertical supports, between which mount the frames. Joints are filled with putty, insulated and covered with a wooden batten. Greenhouse is quite heavy, so the vertical walls strengthen brackets and a roof made of wooden rafters, fasten them with a ridge beam and covered with plastic sheeting.

Galvanized profile

Greenhouse made of metal can be installed on any foundation. Along the perimeter on the waterproofing we lay a wooden strapping. To it fasten the corner and intermediate profile with self-tapping screws, fastening them with cross elements.

On top we form a gable roof. Finish the installation by decorating the door and ventilation window. Move on to cladding the frame with polycarbonate sheets with thermal washers. Do not screw them in too tightly so as not to damage the sheathing.

Wall greenhouse

A very convenient option for a year-round greenhouse. Its peculiarity is the adjacency to the wall of the house.

Advantages in the economy of materials, proximity of communications, heat from the wall of the house, do not have to go far. The design is built single slope at the south wall. Easy installation will allow even a beginner to build a wall greenhouse without difficulty.

  • Prepare the foundation.
  • Install the bottom strapping.
  • Fasten the metal profile as a frame with brackets to the wall of the house.
  • On the opposite side, install a similar one, but smaller in height.
  • Fasten the slings.
  • Install the facade and gable rafters with a spacing of 1 meter.
  • Cross rafters make with a step of 0,6 m.
  • Self-tapping cover the frame with polycarbonate sheets.

There are many options for making a greenhouse: from budget to costly. If you are new to the construction business, take up a simple seasonal option. Once you are skilled, you can move on to more complex and thorough designs.
