Recently, in the interiors of country houses and spacious modern apartments began to appear original products for recreation - hanging armchairs. They continue to rapidly gain popularity due to the unique elegant design and a sense of extraordinary ease and comfort. Light openwork cocoon, hovering above the ground, will help to relax and feel peace and tranquility.

Buy the model you like is not difficult - many large stores of furniture and interior accessories represent a wide range of products for all tastes, striking a variety of shapes, shades and materials.

The cost of hanging pieces of furniture is quite high, budget options for such products are simply not provided. But what to do if you can not afford to buy expensive copies, and so want to decorate your home with an exclusive thing? The answer is simple: you can make a hanging chair yourself. And it will be a really unique thing.

Types of hanging chairs

The first hanging elements of furniture appeared in Denmark in the middle of the twentieth century. In the beginning they were used as garden hammocks, but then gradually began to move under the roof and took places first on terraces and balconies, then finally settled in the rooms, becoming part of the home environment.

Hovering place for relaxing can be made of natural materials (rattan, willow, solid wood) or artificial (plastic, metal). The design is securely attached to the ceiling with a powerful hook, chain or rope. In addition, there are floor products, installed on a special bracket. Both variants of chairs are capable of swinging and spinning.

Amazing design, unusual shapes and different materials make it possible to adjust the product for any room. A properly made armchair can hold up to two hundred pounds. Because of this, it can accommodate either two adults or an adult and a child.

All hanging models are divided into several types:

  • wicker type;
  • textile;
  • rigid;
  • soft.

All of them can swing or rotate, giving their owners unforgettable moments of relaxation.

During its existence, the hanging accessory has changed many times, and today there are a sufficient number of its varieties:

  • A rigid frame type, made of vines, rattan, acrylic or plastic;
  • Soft hammock chair, which has compact size and takes the form of the body of the sitter;
  • a cocoon, remarkable in that its interior is more than half hidden from others by openwork walls;
  • The drop, which looks like a fairy house, has caught on well in children's homes.

Swing chairs are also divided by the features of attachment (axle or rod), by material and possible loading. Before you make a chair with your own hands, you should decide where and how it will be used, and what load is planned for it.

Advantages and disadvantages of hanging models

Hanging chair, as well as any piece of furniture, has its pros and cons. The undoubted advantages of a self-made product include originality and uniqueness. Such a piece is absolutely exclusive, as there are no others like it. Its second advantage is comfort. Comfortable soft seat, rocking gently in space, promotes relaxation and peace.

The minus of the design is the complexity of its carrying. Dismantling takes a long time, and after the massive hook will ruin the ceiling. The pedestal chair is also too massive and heavy to be moved all the time.

The preparation and process of making a dream chair

You do not need to be a special expert to assemble a hanging structure yourself. It is enough to prepare the most necessary and then carefully follow all the recommendations. For the construction of the frame you need to prepare:

  • a work suit and gloves;
  • measuring and cutting tools;
  • a thick canvas;
  • blanks for rigid construction - rods or hoops made of metal, wood, PVC or acrylic;
  • rigid cushioning material, corsage bands;
  • kapron threads;
  • stuffing (synthetic material, foam rubber, balls);
  • chain, rope, rope or sling.

These materials in a sufficient assortment are available in hardware or construction stores.

Making a hanging hammock chair

For country plots, terraces, loggias, attics and summer rooms, a design that looks like an elegant wicker macrame on a rigid frame is ideal. To assemble with your own hands a hanging hammock-chair, you need to prepare either sports hoops or plastic pipes. If there are no macrame weaving skills, you can use a dense canvas to form a seat. But such a variant will be much more modest and massive.

The advantage of macrame weaving is that it will not be necessary to connect sewing equipment and engage in cutting and sewing. The hammock chair model is considered the simplest in construction. It consists of a simple base and a leaf.

To construct the frame you will need two round elements of different sizes. One hoop should be a little less than a meter, the other - a little more. The smaller will be the base of the seat, the larger will be the back. To weave the main part of the product you need to prepare:

  • A large coil of heavy-duty cord;
  • a 12-meter sling;
  • a cord to fasten the hoops;
  • supports made of wood;
  • Measuring and cutting tools.

The most popular rings are those made of plastic tubing. They are strong, plastic and lightweight. For weaving cloth, cord made of acrylic is more suitable. It is soft, it is easy to weave, the knots do not unravel and do not shift.

Procedure:

  1. You should start with the braiding of the hoops. It is made particularly dense, constantly tightening the loops.
  2. Arrangement of the seat. It is necessary to fasten the threads on the hoop at an equal distance and weave a simple pattern with flat knots.
  3. Connecting the two circles with each other. One edge should be as close as possible, the other should be as far away as possible. The further the second edge is, the deeper the chair will be.
  4. Weaving the back. It can be made more interesting pattern. The process should go from the top. When finished, the cord is attached at the bottom.

The tails left after weaving can be turned into original decorations. The finished hammock will look great in the garden and in the room.

Making a cocoon

One of the coziest variants of the suspended construction can be called a chair, which has the shape of a ball, a drop, an egg or a cocoon.

Making a cocoon hanging chair with your own hands will be much more difficult. It will take more materials, effort and time. You will also need hoops, because of which the structure will have a rounded outline.

For the frame will require three or more rings and reinforcing arcs. The pieces will need to be wrapped tightly with cord, periodically taping it to the pipe before joining. The space between the arcs and circles is filled with openwork wicker made of vines, willow twigs, cords, ribbons, wooden slats and other elastic elements.

Such armchairs are always equipped with a soft seat made of foam rubber or other filler.

The suspended cocoon is usually hung from the ceiling by the top part with a rope, cord, string or chain. It is possible to construct and floor version, but it will be necessary to buy metal pipes and carry out expensive welding.

To make your rest as comfortable as possible, do not spend money on the purchase of expensive interior elements. If you want, you can make a real masterpiece, which can decorate any dwelling or garden and allow you to fully enjoy the comfort and be proud of the results of their work.
